Skinny what ?!?

Now that I'm living out of motel/hotel rooms, I'm trying to stay occupied with whatever I can during my down time. I'm a big reader: magazines, books, etc. A couple months ago, I saw some little blurb for this book. It's entitled, Skinny Bitch. That's right. It's description was enough to pique my interest. I never got around to actually seeing what the book was about so a few nights ago, I pop into the local book store in rockin' Terre Haute, Indiana and decided to see if they had it. But where does one look for a book with a possibly offending title? And even worse, asking the elderly employee for its location. Lowering my voice, I felt like I was asking where the porn section was. "Oh, that's one of our most popular books! You'll love it...it's over here!"

So this book is apparently about how to get healthy...and skinny. I'm pretty content with my bod but don't get my wrong, I'd like to touch up a few areas and who doesn't want to be healthy??? So I start reading and it's filled with all the horrible food & beverage items we put in our body. For example, one may think that by drinking diet soda, they're cheating the system by not ingesting sugar and ingesting aspertame instead. After reading this, I will think good and hard before tossing back any diet drink. Aspertame is beyond horrible for you. It has been proven to cause all sorts of health problems. Splenda, for example, was denied 8 times by the FDA before it was finally approved. And even then, it wasn't approved because it's ok for you. An attorney bought his way onto the FDA board to get the crap approved.

Now, I try to eat as well as I can and while this book does give me some insight into all the bad things I've eaten, I am not going to be stocking my kitchen solely from Whole Foods. I don't live in California, I'm not in a bikini 24-7, and I enjoy a disgustingly greasy cheeseburger on occasion. Still, it was a good read overall...and I'm still steering clear from aspertame.
