NYC and sparkly baubles...
Just a mere few days ago, I had the privilege of going to New York City with Dan. We have been working a ton since we got here to Pennsylvania (12-16 hours a day...no joke) and rarely any alone time. So he planned this little getaway weekend for us, complete with itinerary. I was psyched, partly because I've never been there and it would be time away from work and out of rural PA for a bit.
We took a train from New Jersey into the city and it dropped us at Penn Station which can't even be described as organized chaos...it's just chaos. We took the first of many taxi rides, which I liked to call "The Death Star Cab Rides", to our hotel. We were staying at The W Hotel, right in Times Square and this hotel is pretty sweet. The best way to describe it would probably be "swanky".
We started walking around Times Square and unfortunately it was raining...and didn't stop until sometime Friday night. So we saw a few sights and decided on Tavern on the Green for dinner. Tavern on the Green is an iconic NYC restaurant in Central Park and I was really excited to go. Due to the rain, we couldn't eat outside but we had a great time nonetheless and the food was amazing. Dan had bought us tickets to go to the top of the Empire State Building and we tried to go there. Notice I said "tried". It was raining and the top half was completely obscured and we were told that it would be pointless to go up. So we decided to go over to Central Park again and try to take one of those infamous carriage rides. Our carriage man/driver/tour guide was from Ireland and the horse was super sweet and I definitely wanted to take him home!
So off we went on this romantic carriage ride, protected in the rain. About 5 minutes into the ride, I realize that Dan is not saying a word. What he said next, I can't remember now but I do remember the "will you marry me" part! I know that I kept saying "are you serious". Not because I wasn't going to say yes, but because I wasn't expecting it! He did ask if that was a yes and of course it was a yes! I did of course cry. I'm the biggest emotional sap in the world and as much as I thought I could keep my emotions in check when this day happened, not a chance! And of course it's night, no lights, and raining so I'm trying to hang my hand out the carriage to get a glimpse of this ring! And once we get back to our starting point, I realize that I'm even luckier than I already thought. Not many people get to meet people as amazing as Dan but I'm lucky to have him by my side for the rest of my life!
And no, no date has been set but when it does, all of you will be the first to know!
