3 cheers for asthma...NOT!!!
Over Labor Day weekend, I came down with the heinous cold and while I thought I was finally better, apparently my asthma decided it was time to make an appearance! It basically bothered me the entire time Dan and I were in NYC...even requiring me to be escorted down from the Empire State Building in a special elevator, special hallway, with security people. Nothing like drawing attention to yourself! "Pay no attention to the wheezing, dizzy, nice gray-colored girl on the floor of the elevator!" Not exactly the attention I want. The serious heat and humidity didn't help and to add insult to injury, there was NO a/c on the train ride back and I kid you not, it was between 90-100 degrees on the train...with people crammed in and sweating everywhere...myself included!
So I went back to the courthouse on Monday, feeling better. But Monday night, things just started getting worse. I couldn't get the wheezing under control. I thought that going to sleep would help but it kept getting worse. And I started shaking uncontrollably. Yes, tons 'o fun! So Dan called an ambulance and in walks these guys in jeans, hoodies, and covered in dirt. Are ya kidding me? Do these guys actually have medical training or did they just steal a gurney from someone?!? The sight of them did not help calm me down but apparently they'd been dealing with hoses at the firehouse so I guess that's acceptable. That and they got me to the hospital without me dying or completely freaking out.
Just when I finished paying off my last bill from the last time I ended up in the hospital with asthma, here comes another round! And this ambulance ride was like 25 minutes as opposed to 2 miles! I pray that the bills are a little kinder to me this time since we're in the middle of nowhere. Resting is seriously difficult for me and unfortunately I have no choice as walking to the bathroom lands me back in bed for an hour. I hate being weak!
